Photo-journalist killed, 5 hurt in mishap

JAMMU, May 5: A photojournalist was killed while four others were injured today when a vehicle in Deputy Chi-ef Minister’s cavalcade skidded off the road and fell into a canal in Greater Kaliash area of city outskirts.
As per the reports, the accident took place at Langer (Greater Kailash) at about 1.30 PM when a Safari vehicle bearing registration number JK02BF-2170, which was part of the convoy of the Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, while returning from a function, skidded off the road and fell into a roadside canal.
As soon as the vehicle fell into the canal which was full of water, the people on the spot immediately launched a rescue operation and evicted all the five personnel travelling in the vehicle.
They were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where one of them, who was identified as Suram Singh (photojournalist of Information Department) son of Rattan Singh of Majeem Sidhra (Jammu) was declared as brought dead by the doctors. According to the doctors, the journo died of drowning.

Subhash Nagar (Jammu), Sudesh Kumar (employee of State Motor Garage) son of Mangat Ram of Digiana and PSO of Deputy CM, Constable Vishal son of Satpal of Trikuta Nagar (Jammu). They were responding to the treatment.
After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while Gangyal police had taken cognizance of the matter and seized the vehicle. According to a police sources, the accident took place due to concrete laid down on the road due to which one of the tyres of the vehicles got slipped and the vehicle fell into the canal.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief and shock over the death of a cameraman of Information Department. She has also conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. She has also sympathized with those injured in the road accident.
Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, has also expressed deep sorrow over the death of the photojournalist and prayed for the peace to the departed soul. He also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh has also expressed shock over the death of Suram Singh. He prayed for peace to the departed soul and  courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
