The superstar of Bollywood deserves kudos for taking this philanthropic act. This move should inspire other Bollywood actors, cricket players and other NGOs to come forward and help the farmer community in distress.
The farmers in India are facing many problems on account of vagaries of weather, rising prices of essential commodities, costly medicare etc.
The Indian Agriculture sector may face severe probems in the future because new generations do not like to go for farming as they prefer to go cities to do other jobs which bring them monetary benefits and to some extent respect also. The policy makers ignored the need for creating infrasturcutral facilities like irrigation and storage, and not to mention the transport facilities. Some of the main causes of the farmers’ mass suicide is due to absence of adequate social support infrastructure at the level of the village and district, uncertainty of agriculture enterprise in India etc. To save farmers’ community from distress, it is need of the time to help them in one way or the other.
