JAMMU, Feb 23: PHE workers have resolved to observe strike on February 27 and 28, to draw the attention of the Government towards the problems being faced by the daily rated, casual and other consolidated workers in the department.
While addressing press conference here today, president of PHE Workers Welfare Association, Bakshi Singh and general secretary, Subhash Verma said that Govt has forced the workers to adopt the agitational path. They alleged that a large number such workers have not been paid their wages for the last 35 to 40 months. Their families are facing starvation. They have been forced to work for the meager wages and that too, are not paid for the months together.
The Govt despite repeated assurances has failed to frame a definite policy of regularization of these workers engaged after 1994. Many of them are working for the last more than 15 years but they have not been regularized till date. The Department has failed to conduct DPC of all cadre of the employees since long. No seniority list of the regular employees is being prepared. At pumping stations, Tube wells etc there is no furniture available for the workers night chowkidars. The buildings have not be repaired since long. The chowkidar quarters are lying in shambles.
Bakshi Singh and Verma issued appeal to the workers to observe 24-hour Kam Chhod Hartal on February 27-28 and hold protest demonstration in support of their demands.
Rattan Doshi, Ram Labhaya, Manzoor Ali, Surinder Singh, Ajit Singh, Lal Chand, Ravi Kumar, Krishan Lal and Kulbhushan Nanda were also present.
