BHADERWAH, June 29: Land Donor Workers Association of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has threatened to stop water supply if their pending wages are not released.
In a meeting of the association held here today under the chairmanship of its president, Pritam Singh Kotwal, the speakers said that the PHE Minister and Finance Minister had promised to release their wages of previous one year on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, but nothing had been done so far to fulfill the promise.
He further said that 2,300 people donate their land to the PHE Department for construction of tube well stations with the assurance that the Government will provide them job, but after two years of their appointment they got not a single wage even.
“It is quite astonishing that Chief Engineer, PHE Department, issued an order releasing an amount of Rs 33.34 lac for Doda district for 1418 workers”, Kotwal said, adding this means that pay for only ten days is to be given per individual.
The meeting concluded with a firm resolution that if the wages as per promise (for one year) is not released before Eid festival, protest will start from Chenab Valley which will extend throughout the State.
