PHE employees take to streets demanding regularization of services

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Security forces today foiled Public Health Engineering (PHE) employees attempt to march towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence, demanding regularization of their services.    Thousands of PHE employees from different parts of the Kashmir valley gathered at PHE office at Exchange road. A large number of them had arrived last night following a call by their association to march towards CM residence  today.
However, after learning that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is out of station it was decided to hold demonstration near the official residence of PHE Minister and later at Gupkar near CM residence.
Raising slogans in support their demands the agitated employees marched through different streets. However they were stopped and chased away near Church Lane.    Several dozen agitation employees were taken into preventive custody.
The employees alleged that despite repeated assurances by the Government that services of all daily wagers, who have completed seven years service, would be regularised, nothing has been done sofar.
They threatened to intensify their agitation if their service were not regularised.
