PG Law enters semis; GDC Samba registers thrilling super-over win

JAMMU, Jan 16: Defeating Degree College (GDC) Poonch by 6 wickets in an easy contest, PG Law and Sciences entered the semifinals, while Government Degree College Samba scripted a thrilling super-over win against GDC Bhaderwah in the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Men Cricket Tournament, being organized by the University of Jammu at Varsity grounds, here.
In the first match played today, PG Law, rode on a superb all-round show by Gokul Baru to trounce GDC Poonch by 6 wickets. Batting first, GDC Poonch scored a modest total of 102 runs in 19 overs. Gurjinder Singh (23) and Asad-ur-Rehman (20) were the main contributors. Vikas Sharma also chipped in with 12 runs. For PG Law, Gokul Baru scalped 3 wickets, while Himanshu Sharma and Ajay Sharma claimed 2 wickets each. Shahroz Malik and Rahul Bandral also took one wicket each.
In reply, PG Law reached the required target in 14.1 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Gokul Baru was the top scorer with unbeaten 33 runs, while Bandral contributed 17 runs to the total. Sanjeev also contributed 11 runs in the winning cause. For GDC Poonch, Jasvinder Singh claimed 2 wickets, while Amjad and Yasir Iqbal took one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Raman Kumar and Vijay Dogra as umpires, while Manu Khajuria maintained the scorebook.
In another match, GDC Samba got better of GDC Bhaderwah via super-over in an exciting contest. Batting first, GDC Bhaderwah scored 113 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, with Vikrant Rana (34) and Anjit Kotwal being the main scorers. Asif Bhatt also contributed 16 runs to the total. For GDC Samba, Amit Sharma and Nitish Padha claimed 2 wickets each, while Aditya Sambyal bagged one.
In reply, GDC Samba also scored 113 runs in 20 overs to make it a tie and take the match to super-over for a decision, wherein GDC Samba scored 13 runs and Bhaderwah managed only 5 to guide GDC Samba to pre-quarterfinals.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Husaain and Saleem as umpires, while Manu was the scorer.
