UDHAMPUR/REASI, Apr 17: Majority of the voters particularly the first time electorates exercised their democratic right during the second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir to get the country rid of corruption, which according to them, has crossed all the limits during the past decade long UPA rule in the country.
The electorates are of the opinion that during the past 10 years the country has become infamous for scams worth several thousands crores of rupees mainly due to those politicians to whom their vested interest remained more dearer as compared to development and progress of the country.
The enthusiastic people especially youth and new electorates cast vote with a hope that the new Government at Centre will initiate steps to bring down the graph of corruption and ensure development in every nook and corner of the country.
“We have seen that UPA Government never paid heed to check corruption in the country and rather increased the same by giving free hand to the corrupt politicians. Moreover, there was no attention towards initiating people friendly measures”, Ajay Gupta, a shopkeeper and a social worker told EXCELSIOR during interaction at a pooling booth in Katra.
“Time has come to change this corrupt Government to give opportunity to new faces to lead the country’, he said, adding “the present Government even did not pay any attention towards controlling rising prices of the essential commodities, which directly targeted the common masses”.
“Change of guard at the Centre is need of the hour as till today politicians looted the country through scams”, said first time electorate Sagar Prashar, a Ist year student of MBS College of Education, Jammu, who had specially visited his native place Katra to cast vote.
“Now the electorates can’t be befooled anymore. People particularly the youth are well aware of the prevailing situation in the country”, he added.
When asked about his expectations from the new Government, he said, “I have voted with the hope that the new Government would take adequate measures to check corruption, ensure holistic development and create employment avenues”.
Nikhil Padha, another first time voter and a first year student of SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, who too reached Katra this morning to cast vote, said, “change of guard will not only convey resentment of the people but also give a message to the new faces that they will have to come up to the expectations of the people otherwise they will meet the same fate”.
Similar opinion was given by large number of electorates in various polling stations in Udhampur district particularly those established in Government Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools and Deputy Commissioner Office.
When asked about “Modi Wave”, large number of electorates were of the opinion that “Gujarat witnessed massive development under the Chief Ministership of Narendra Modi. When a Chief Minister like Modi will become Prime Minister, definitely development of the country will take place at every nook and corner of the country”.
There were no complaints about discrepancies in the voters list at majority of the polling stations in these districts, which indicates that Election Department had carried out massive exercise to ensure updation of the electoral rolls.
