SAMBA, May 29: The irate residents of Mananu in Samba district today held a strong protest and blocked Samba-Mansar road against acute shortage of drinking water in the village.
A large number of people including women and children assembled at Samba-Nud road in Mananu village and raised slogans against the PHE and officials and authorities for ignoring their sufferings caused due to the absence of drinking water supply. The protesters disrupted the vehicular movement for more than two hours on busy Samba-Mansar road.
“We are facing crisis in this scorching weather for the last 15 days, but the authorities are least bothered, forcing people to take to the streets,” said Geeta Devi,” a local.
“We approached the concerned officials several times, but to no avail. The people in the area are forced to fetch water from distant places in this hot weather. We urge PHE department to ensure water supply in our area at earliest, she said.
The protesters were pacified only after the assurance of Devender Manyal, MLA Samba, that problem of water supply in the area will be solved at the earliest.
