People stage protest against Govt, seek relief

SRINAGAR, Sept 4: Ahead of 2014 floods anniversary, the residents and traders of Bemina area of city today protested against Government and sought relief package.
Bemina was one of the worst affected areas due to floods that stuck valley on September 7 last year. The local traders and residents took to roads this morning at 9 am and started protests against Government’s failure to rehabilitate the flood victims.
The protesters said that they faced losses worth crores during the floods but the Government, despite its promise, failed to compensate the losses. The protest continued for two hours and as a result the traffic movement came to a halt in the area.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The protest remained peaceful and no law and order problem occurred. After concluding their protest, the traders resumed their routine activities.
It is to be mentioned here that the trade bodies have called for a shutdown across the valley on September 7 against the failure of Government to rehabilitate the business community as well as people in the aftermath of deadly floods of previous year.
