SAMBA, Feb 13: Protesters today blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for an hour at Vijaypur against non-availability of Kerosene Oil in Samba district from last nine months, making lives of the poor people difficult.
Led by former Minister and Congress’s general secretary, Manjit Singh, the protesters blocked vehicular traffic on the NH  for an hour, amid shouting slogans against the Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and its failure to deal with the day-to-day issues of the common masses.
Speaking on the occasion, senior Congress leader and former Minister, Manjit Singh alleged that the government is meant for the welfare of the people but for the people of Samba district, the Government has imposed restriction on the sale of Kerosene.
“We have not seen Kerosene in Samba district since last nine months. The supply has been stopped and poor people have been made to face difficulties,” said Manjit Singh. The SDM Vijaypur approached them and assured that their demands would be projected before the concerned Department and Minister.
Even as the protesters were assured, they moved towards the office of SDM Vijaypur and staged a dharna there. Later, they submitted a memorandum of demands to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and FCS&CA Minister though the SDM Vijaypur.
There was a huge jam on the NH and computers were put to many hardships.
Earlier, Manjit Singh also expressed concern over the shortage of ration in the Government depots where sugar is not supplied for last five to six months. He alleged that Government is sending the ration but it is not reaching the people in State.
