People resent delay in road work, protest against R&B

BHADERWAH, Nov 25: Aggrieved over the delay in execution work of Katyara-Sharekhi road by R&B Department despite repeated requests to local administration and concerned authorities, the residents of village Sharekhi held a protest at Chinar Mohalla Chowk, here today.
Hundreds of inhabitants from Sharekhi and adjoining areas assembled at Sharekhi Chowk and took out a protest rally which after passing through Sartingal, Sungli and University Road culminated at Chinar Mohalla, where they sit on dharna and blocked the Bhaderwah-Sartingal road for hours.
The protesters while raising anti-administration and R&B Department slogans were demanding immediate execution of the work of 2 kilometers Katyara-Sharekhi road, lying pending since more than seven years even after its 3 time tendering. Veteran political leader Mast Nath Yogi also joined the protesters and demanded execution of road work as soon as possible.
The protesters alleged that unnecessary delay is being made in construction of this road.
“Many times the department has tendered the work of said road but even after lapse of over 7 years the work is still pending as a result of which the people of Sharekhi and its peripheral areas are suffering a lot”, said Irshad Lawai, a protester.
“Due to non availability of the road, people especially students are the most sufferers as they have to travel 2 kilometers on foot towards Sartingal to board mini buses to reach their schools and colleges”, said a protester, Mohammad Hanief of village Sharekhi.
Protesters demanded that the execution work on 2 kilometers Katyara-Sharekhi road should be started as earliest, otherwise they threatened to launch massive agitation at District Headquarter.
After getting information, SDPO Bhaderwah Brijesh Sharma and Xen R&B Department Bhaderwah Division, Bashir Ahmed Khanday visited the spot and pacified the protesters with the assurance to redress their genuine demand regarding construction of road as soon as possible.
On the assurance, the protesters called-off their protest and vehicular movement was restored on the road.
The protesters also sought immediate intervention of CM Mehbooba Mufti, DDC Doda and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu into the matter and demanded that road execution work should be taken up on war footing so that people can get relief from the daily sufferings.
