People protest with man’s dead body, block road

NOWSHERA, Aug 17: The people from Sarya and Jhangar area today held protest at main Nowshera bridge along with the body of middle- aged man who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Gandhinagar area of Jammu last mid night.
The deceased has been identified as Pappi (40), son of Shanker Dass, resident of Sarya, in Jhangar area of Nowshera Sub Division. He was an auto-driver by profession  and operating in Jammu Railway Station area. His dead body was found lying in a park at Gole Market, Gandhinagar.
Today, the police after postmortem, handed over to the dead body of the deceased to his family and relatives. Later, the relatives and villagers from the area kept  the dead body of Pappi, at TCP near Nowshera bridge and blocked Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway at around 12.30 pm. They started protest alleging that Pappi was murdered  and accused  must be arrested.
They alleged that hardly one week back, a local Irrigation department employee over some land issue had threatened Pappi and his family to eliminate them. He had some connection with the land mafia and they have eliminated him with a plan. They described it as planed murder.
The movement of vehicles came to halt on the busy highway. A long traffic jam was created on both  sides of the highway for long.
Later, Additional Deputy Commissioner,  Sher Singh and ASP Nowshera, Master Popsy reached the spot and assured the protesting people to hold thorough inquiry into the case. Then people lifted dharna at around 3.30 pm and cleared the road.
