People protest against police high handedness

RAMBAN, Jan 3: The shopkeepers along with people held protest at Chanderkote against the high handedness of the police department.
Large number of shopkeepers and locals assembled at Panchayat Ghar, Chanderkote and raised slogans against the police department. The shopkeepers also closed their shops on the bandh call given by Beopar Mandal led by its President Qasim Ali.
The protesters said that police cops posted in Chanderkote police station were harassing the shopkeepers without any fault. They said that yesterday evening, a shopkeeper namely Om Veer Singh of West Bengal was beaten by the police cops.
“The said shopkeeper was beaten by the cops without any fault. The victim received injuries in his ear and is admitted in District Hospital for treatment”, the protesters added.
They demanded immediate transfer of the cops including SHO, who are harassing and manhandling the shopkeepers and locals.
On getting information, Tehsildar Gurpreet Singh and DySP Headquarters Ramban Mohammad Rafiq Choudhary rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that action will be taken against the cops before January 12.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and the shopkeepers opened their business establishments.
