SRINAGAR, Oct 2: The irate residents of Govindpuri Colony in Vijaypur area held a massive protest and blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for half an hour tonight in protest against the failure of PDD authorities to install the transformer in the area.
The protestors raising slogans against the PDD authorities accused them of their failure in installing the transformer that can last long.
Capt (retd) Ajit Singh a resident of the area, told Excelsior that in last 10 days transformer burnt five times and the authorities failed to replace it with a new one. He said the people took up the issue with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, C P Ganga yesterday who issued instructions to concerned officers of PDD to install anew 250 mva transformer in the area immediately.
The authorities gave assurance to Minister that the orders will be followed in letter and spirit but instead of a new transformer an old transformer was installed which did not function and burnt down within few minutes after installation.
Protesting against the callousness of the PDD authorities, he said they are making a mockery by not implementing the orders of the Minister.
Later, on the intervention of SHO Vijaypur, Suraj Pathania the protestors dispersed and traffic was restored on Highway. The SHO assured the protestors that he will arrange their meeting with PDD officers tomorrow morning and problem will be sorted out once for all.
