JAMMU, Aug 4: The irate residents of Barnai, Patoli Brahmana and adjoining areas held a strong demonstration and blocked the Akhnoor road in protest against power failure in the area.
Hundreds of protesters gathered at Akhnoor road shouting slogans against the Government and PDD authorities and torched the effigy of Government for power crisis.
The protestors said that power supply remained off for the entire day in the area putting people to many hardships in this hot and humid temperature. They termed it a criminal silence of the authorities at the helm of affairs who are putting people especially old and infirm to trouble unnecessarily.
The protesters said the power supply remained off for entire day in the area and when it was resumed in the night the Receiving Station enforced the routine cut at 9 pm which aggravated the situation further as inverters also exhausted.
The protesters warned to intensify agitation in case immediate steps were not taken by the Government to better the power supply.
Meanwhile district BJP Rural President and former Corporator Omi Khajuria termed it a conspiracy of the authorities to defame the Government otherwise there was no logic of keeping power off for the entire day and after restoring in the night enforcing the routine cut to generate a public resentment against the Government.
Khajuria urged the Deputy Chief Minister to probe the matter and unmask the conspiracy and take action against the erring officers. He said enforcing the day long power cut in a huge area in this hot and humid Summer tantamount to criminal conspiracy of the department as the infirm and old people are unable to resist such humid and hot temperature and can collapse any movement in case such situation persists. He said what was the fun of enforcing the routine cut in the night when the power was off for entire day?
