KISHTWAR, Feb 8: People held a massive protest here today over the death of man.
Large number of people from a particular community assembled outside DC Office here and raised slogans demanding justice.
They also kept the body of the deceased identified as Shabir Ahmed, son of Shah Wali of Gurian, District Kishtwar on road.  The protestors alleged that the deceased died due to torture by the police in the custody and demanded magisterial enquiry.
As per police sources, Shabir Ahmed was arrested in a case registered under FIR Number 18/16 under Section 354, 504 and 506 on January 25.
He was bailed out on January 27 and was admitted in the District Hospital Kishtwar on the same day.
On January 29, he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
Taking cognizance over the allegation leveled by the protestors, DC Kishtwar GN Balwan ordered magisterial inquiry and appointed Kishori Lal Sharma, Additional District Magistrate, Kishtwar as inquiry officer.
Sharma has been directed to conduct magisterial inquiry regarding the cause of death of late Shabir Ali and submit the factual report within 10 days to DC for further necessary action.
