People protest for GDC, block road at Manjakote

RAJOURI, May 9: The people from Manjakote town and adjoining areas today held protest demonstration  and dharna for the 9th consecutive day today in support  of their demand of  setting up of Degree College and sanctioning of the post of SDM for the area.
A large number of people from the area including majority of them youth, stood up from  the dharna site near Tehsil complex and then moved to the Rajouri-Poonch highway. They sat on dharna on the roads and stalled the movement  of traffic on Jammu-Poonch highway for about two hours from 11 am on wards.
The agitating people were shouting slogans  against the PDP-BJP Government and also in support of their  demands. They pointed out that Manjakote area has four Higher Secondary schools and it fulfills the much needed criteria for the creation of Degree College.   They alleged discrimination with the Manjakote area on political reasons.
They further said that when  many towns of  Rajouri district have been sanctioned posts of  ADCs and SDMs, then why only Manjakote was ignored in all respects.  They warned to intensify agitation in near future.  The busy road was cleared with the intervention of senior officers at around 1 pm.
