MENDHAR, Feb 9: The people from Mendhar and some adjoining areas today held strong protest against local NC MLA Javed Rana and Block Development Officer (BDO), for deletion of many Mohallas and wards in various Panchayats as a part of Panchayat elections.
A large number of people irrespective of their political affiliations, came out on the roads and then moved to the office of BDO at around 12 noon and started protest demonstration. They also blocked Mendhar Jammu road for about three hours .
They were shouting slogans against MLA Javed Rana, BDO Mendhar and even the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, M H Malik. The movement of vehicles on both sides was stalled and long traffic jam was created in the town. The police party led by SI Javed Manhas reached the spot but the people did not lift the dharna. They continued their protest and loud slogans against the BDO and others.
The speakers at the protest dharna alleged that many mohallas/ wards were deleted on pick and choose basis from various Panchayats on the directions of the local MLA by the BDO and his staff. They alleged that many areas were segregated on the basis of political considerations. They alleged that other people were not consulted for the same. No notification is being issued and pick and choose process is being adopted.
Later, Tehsildar Mendhar Shehzad Khan and SDM Rahul Yadav intervened after discussing the issue with the DC Poonch. On the assurance of the SDM and DC, the people then lifted dharna.
