MENDHAR, Dec 26: The people from Chhatral, Kalaban and Bhati Dar area today held protest and blocked Mendhar-Chhatral road for about three hours.
The people were protesting against the worst condition of the road and over-charging by the local Sumo operators. The people came out on the road near Bhati Dar and raised barricades. They staged dharna and started shouting slogans against PWD and Transport authorities. They alleged that condition of the road was worst and the concerned PWD agency was sleeping over the issue.
They further alleged that Sumo operators were charging Rs 30 for just 9 km distance and Rs 20 for 4 km distance. The passengers are forced to pay and there was no control of any agency at all. They sought the intervention of DC Poonch in this regard.
