JAMMU, July 16: Infuriated over repeated burning out of 250 KV main transformer for the last five days, locals of Patoli Magotrian and its adjoining areas held a strong protest demonstration against Power Development Department, here today.
The agitating people blocked ever busy Janipur road near Power House and paralyzed vehicular movement for more than an hour. They were shouting slogans against PDD authorities and demanding immediate replacement of the burnt transformer.
The protesters said that the entire locality was without electricity for the last two days but the PDD authorities did nothing to replace the damaged transformer. They lambasted the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who is also the Minister for Power, for his failure to improve the power scenario in entire Jammu.

According to the protesters, the main transformer of the area, installed at Patoli Park, had damaged a number of times in the last one week thus forcing the locals to remain without electricity for days together.
The demonstration continued for more than an hour, during which the protesters disrupted traffic movement by putting burning tyres on the road. Even as Police tried to pacify the protesters, the latter insisted for immediate replacement of the damaged transformer and restoration of electricity supply in the area.
Later, the protesters dispersed off after PDD authorities from Sub-Division Parade personally reached the spot and assured restoration of electricity as early as possible.
