KISHTWAR, Nov 6: Aggrieved over the delay in execution of Chatter bridge on Chenab river and Kandhani-Ohli road by PMGSY despite repeated requests to Minister concerned and local administration, the residents of various villages of Kuntwara today held protest near Kandani on Kishtwar-Batote National Highway early this morning.
Hundreds of inhabitants from Kuntwara and adjoining areas assembled at Khandi and blocked the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar Highway demanding immediate execution of the work of Chatter bridge lying pending since for the past over one decade.
The protesters alleged that unnecessary delay is being made in construction of this bridge. The department submitted the redesign plan of the bridge to Chief Engineer PMGSY Jammu for approval, but even after lapse of over two years the approval for the same is pending as a result of which the people of Kuntwara and adjoining areas are suffering a lot.
They said that due to non availability of the bridge, the work on prestigious Kuntwara road had not been started properly for the past several years.
After getting information, DySP Headquarter Nihar Ranjan along with SHO Police Station Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jeelani and Executive Engineer of PMGSY rushed to the spot and gave written assurance to the agitating people that their genuine demand of Kuntwara bridge construction will be redressed as soon as possible.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
