Pensioners for settlement of long pending demands

SRINAGAR, June 6: The Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Association in a meeting today at Kanga 40 kms from here has urged the Government to concede the long pending demands of State pensioners.
The meeting, which was chaired by Mir Ghulam Rasool a veteran trade unionist demanded enhancement of Medical Allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month. It further demanded that arrears of Seventh Pay Commission be given to pensioners in one installment and the hike in pensioners DA installment be made on the Central Government pattern instead of 80 years, besides State pensioners be given all those facilities which are available to Central pensioners.
The meeting constituted a body of Kangan Unit with Ghulam Ahmed Raina as chairman, Ghulam Ahmed Khan as secretary, Ghulam Nabi Shah as vice president, and Abdul Rehman Hajam as joint secretary.
The meeting was also attended by senior leader of the Association Sheikh Mohi-ud-Din Shilvati. It,  while expressing grave concern and shock over the killing of innocent people in border shelling said present turmoil has destroyed the State and its economy. It appealed the people to press for the unconditional dialogue for restoration of peace in the State and settlement of the issue.
The meeting also urged the Government to settle the demands of Anganwari workers and daily rated workers and other employees who are on agitation.
