Pediatric Consultant of CHC RS Pura suspended for absence, infant’s death

JAMMU, Dec 2: Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Gurjeet Singh, today suspended Dr Farman Ullah, Consultant Pediatric, CHC RS Pura for his unauthorized absence from the hospital on December 30 due to which an infant died in the hospital.
According to the order issued by the Director Health Services Jammu, “Pending enquiry Dr Farman Ullah, Consultant Pediatric, CHC RS Pura, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect, in the case of death of an infant on December 30 in CHC RS Pura. During suspension period, he shall remain attached with Chief Medical Officer’s office, Jammu”.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Sanjay Turki, said that as per the preliminary reports, the condition of a 4-day-old infant of Ashu Devi and Bodh Raj of RS Pura, who had born on CHC RS Pura on December 27 after caesarian and was admitted in the hospital, suddenly deteriorated in the evening of December 30 following which the infant was examined by a doctor deployed in the emergency, who rang Dr Farman Ullah, Consultant Pediatric of the hospital and told about the emergency.
“However, Dr Farman, who was unauthorizedly absent from the duties, did not reach hospital and in the meanwhile the infant died at about 8.45 PM”, the CMO said, adding, the next morning a gathering of about 400 people including the family, relatives and neighbours of the deceased infant holds a sit-in-protest in the hospital premises with the dead body, demanding action against the accused doctor.
He said that an enquiry has been ordered into the death of the infant and as per the preliminary reports got from the concerned BMO, Dr Rajinder Kumar, Dr Farman Ullah has been placed under suspension and attached with CMO’s office during suspension period.
