Peace necessary for holding Panchayat polls in J&K: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Jan 7: Jammu and Kashmir Bachao Tehreek leader  and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that present Government has crossed all the levels of mental bankruptcy and is hell bent to push Kashmir into 2008, 2010 or 2016 like situation.
In a press statement here today Vakil said  that recent decision of the Government to hold Panchayat elections is a reflection of same and before announcing these elections it should have satisfied the electorate of Anantnag Parliamentary constituency for being representative less in Parliament besides forced deprivation of developmental activities which could have been carried out under MPLADS.
Vakil said scars of previous election are still unhealed and pushing people to miseries through Panchayat elections is unacceptable and unjustified. He said that it is clear now that Government is completely unaware of the existing ground realities and has accessed the situation in air conditioned rooms only.
Vakil made it clear that once peace and tranquility gets restored and is visible on ground, everyone will be in favour of holding of elections but at present holding any election will be at the cost of peace of the State and lives of common people.  He  said that at present Government must and needs to concentrate on restoration of peace and multiply its CBM’s so that spreading alienation could be curbed and tackled and in this direction it must on priority enforce a blanket ban on the use of pellet guns by security forces.
Senior leader said that Government of India as well State Government must desist from carrying out experiments in the Jammu and Kashmir. He said that both the Governments must look into the reasons for every day bloodbath, innocent killings or exploitation of the unemployed youth. He  appealed both the Governments to look into the exact reasons due to which local youth once again are picking weapons of destruction in their hands and formulate a long term and genuine policy to engage and put them on right track.
