JAMMU, Feb 27: The PDP rebel leader Tariq Hamid Karra today said that PDP will collapse with its own weight and misdeeds as it has betrayed the mandate of the people from Kashmir by joining hands with BJP.
Karra who recently joined Congress, told the media-persons after PCC Executive Committee meeting at party office here today that he joined Congress because he was shocked and unhappy over the recent developments in Kashmir valley with regard to Kashmir unrest. He said what ever happened was totally against the ideology of PDP.
” I tried to save my `home’ (PDP) but failed as my words were not given importance. I was not in favour of alliance with BJP and had advised the party leader late Mufti Sahib on the issue of alliance but his suggestion was not given due attention. Many innocents boys were killed, thousands lost their eyes and a large number were detained under PSA during unrest. This all is against the ethics and ideology of the PDP. My conscious did not allow me to continue and I decided to quit, ” Karra maintained.
” I had 2 to 3 options including floating my own party but thought that the fascist forces operating in the country and playing a role of fragmenting people of Jammu and Kashmir will get benefited,” he added.
“We had meetings with AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi before joining Congress,” Karra said.
He maintained that his joining is issue based and concerns keeping people of Jammu and Kashmir in mind.
Responding to a question, Karra said, ” PDP did not need any external force to get dismantled. It will collapse with its own weight and sins.”
Karra alleged that Mehbooba Mufti-led Government in the State was fulfilling agenda of the RSS.
“RSS is dictating terms and issuing directions to the PDP ruling Government in the State and the party is fulfilling their (RSS) mission,” Karra added.
Earlier, Karra was accorded rousing reception at Jammu airport on his arrival from Delhi. A number of senior Congress leaders received him. He was profusely garlanded and was taken in an open jeep from Airport to the Party office at Shaheedi Chowk, where senior leaders of the party and members of executive were present.
PCC chief GA Mir welcomed Karra and described his decision to join the Congress party as a welcome step which would go a long way to strengthen the Congress party and the secular forces in the State. He said that party would be benefitted because of his experience, political and administrative acumen and grass root support in the state, especially in the valley.
Addressing party executive, Karra said that his decision to quit PDP, of which he was one of the founding member, was due to deviation of the party from the fundamental values and principles for which the party was founded. He explained that the PDP was formed with the basic purpose of resolution of Kashmir issue and to strengthen the secular forces in the state. The PDP mainly fought the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to keep BJP away in order to check the emergence of fascist forces. He regretted that the PDP not only became a facilitator but a collaborator to strengthen the communal and divisive policies of BJP-RSS, for which he was always opposed to and could not reconcile. He said that PDP’s joining hands with BJP for the sake of power, was betrayal of the mandate of the people by the party.
Senior party leaders Sham Lal Sharma, CLP Leader Rigzin Jora, Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Ravinder Sharma, Madan Lal Sharma, GM Saroori, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Haji Abdul Rasheed, Kanta Bhan, Jugal Kishore, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Vikram Malhotra, MLAs/MLCs, general secretaries, DCC presidents and frontal heads of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI were also present.
