JAMMU, Feb 6: Expressing concern at the reports of door –to- door survey being conducted by the J&K Police through an intrusive questionnaire, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today urged Governor N N Vohra to intervene in the matter so as to stop unnecessarily harassment of the peaceful citizens of the State.
The Party observed that this survey would serve nothing except creating suspicion among minds of the people.
In a joint statement issued here today, PDP leaders said that such survey was undesirable in a democratic system as this ill-thought out exercise could complicate lives of the people. “Asking undesirable questions like approximate number of household relatives, sects, mislay, details of daughters married out-side the state and their relatives is nothing but a glaring example of intrusion in the privacy of the citizens”, PDP leaders observed.
They said no free citizens of a free country like ours should be expected to be subjected to such an intrusion.
PDP leaders further cautioned that such survey, which is direct interference in the private life of citizens, would prove counter productive. This discriminatory exercise could create a feeling of ‘otherness’ among the people of Kashmir, who are reeling under the impact of a long drawn-out turbulence.
Signatories of the statement included S Rangil Singh, S Trilok Singh Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, Daman Bhasin and Mehboob Iqbal.
