SRINAGAR, Dec 12:  PDP chief-spokesperson and former Parliamentarian, Dr Mehboob Beg has termed  the visit of External Affairs Minister,  Sushma Swaraj to Islamabad as a step in the right direction and one which would help benefit the people of Kashmir.
Dr Beg said that the External Affairs Minister having expressed her commitment for a “Comprehensive bilateral dialogue” has sent-out a positive signal, having the potential to go a very long way in resolving the disputes between India and Pakistan. “The Minister has laid stress on two very important issues viz. humanitarian issues and religious tourism, this would ensure not only a boost in our economy but also in easier person to person contact between the two sides, which would benefit the people of Jammu & Kashmir”, said Dr Mehboob Beg in a statement.
Dr Beg also pointed-out that the statement of the External Affairs Minister where-in she said that “We will move at a pace which Pakistan is comfortable with” shows immense maturity and flexibility in India’s attitude and is perfectly in sync with what the Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed had mooted for in the massive rally held in Srinagar November 7, in presence of the Prime Minister of India. “Mufti Sahab had vouched for a flexible attitude from India vis-a-vis Pakistan, India being the bigger and mightier power and this has now formed the basis of India’s External Affairs strategy with Pakistan”, said Dr Beg.
Dr Beg also welcomed the NSA level talks and the involvement of Army in the talks between the two countries and further appreciated the ‘intent’ with which the talks were being held at a neutral venue, away from the media glare. Dr Beg said that the two countries should carry-on in this direction, while being vary of the ‘enemies of peace’ who may try and disrupt this process. He termed these developments as a big boost for the ‘agenda of alliance’ and said that the hostilities between India and Pakistan have caused a lot of suffering to the people of the State and the two Nations must move towards resolving all their differences, so that the people of Jammu & Kashmir can reap the benefits and lead better and prosperous lives.
