PDP Sarpanch shot dead

Srinagar, Apr 17: Militants tonight shot dead a Sarpanch belonging to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that militants fired upon Sarpanch Mohammad Amin Pandith, 45, son of Abdul Ahad Pandith resident of Gulzarpora outside his residence. Pandith was shifted to nearby Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. He was a PDP worker.
Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched the hunt to nab the militants responsible for the killing of the Sarpanch.
In March this year 80-year old father of the PDP Sarpanch of was killed at Dogripora in Awantipora.
Last week militants targeted the residence of Youth National Conference leader Yawar Masoodi at Khrew area of the district in which two police personnel were killed. However, both the militants were later killed by Army and police.
