PDP rubbed salt on wounds of homeless: Shafi Uri

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: National Conference has castigated PDP for playing a ruthless and self-centered role by showing complete lack of concern towards the flood victims.
Senior NC leader and Party Candidate from Uri, Mohammad Shafi Uri has said that PDP’s unabashed and shameful hunger for gaining political mileage out of the condition of the flood victims had exposed the party’s agenda. He said this while addressing supporters and workers of National Conference at Uri during his campaigning in the constituency.
“National Conference has never shied away from elections and has sustained democracy in J&K at a time when all other political entities went into hiding. Our reason for opposing holding elections right now was that we did not want the State Administration and various departments to lose focus on the rehabilitation process for the flood victims. Omar Abdullah made it very clear that he wanted the entire State machinery and administration to treat the rehabilitation of the flood victims as its topmost priority. Unfortunately, PDP ditched and betrayed the flood victims by taking a stand that will go down in history as treachery with a grief-stricken people”, Uri said.
He further alleged that Uri had been grossly neglected as governance had been made a derivative of what your political affiliation is. “Those of you who didn’t belong to a certain political camp were deprived of their basic rights of poverty alleviation through schemes like MGNREGA and IAY at the local level. For people of Uri, the very definition of poverty was changed and only those were considered for these schemes who pledged allegiance to a certain political camp – as against to those who were deserving. This gross injustice and selective governance has pushed back Uri by a decade and has robbed all of you of your inalienable right to prosper and grow with the rest of the State.
“This election will give the people of Uri an opportunity to register their protest against how they were neglected and ignored at the local level for the last six years despite the Omar Abdullah Government extending landmark schemes in education, healthcare and roads and buildings for the people of the area. We should not get fooled when someone comes here and lists the achievements of the Omar Abdullah Government as his own achievements, Mr Uri added.
