JAMMU, Oct 21: As a special service for the rural households, Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) has started e-registration of the electricity connections which will facilitate release of new electricity connections at the door steps rather in the household itself.
Now availing a new connection, even at the farthest and remotest location is possible on finger tips with the help of the Smartphone App namely ‘Gram Jyoti Doot’, developed by JKPDD through the students of Government College for Engineering and Technology, Jammu.
The said households as such under the ongoing electrification works, a hamlet namely Jamotian falling under Akhnoor Tehsil, was electrified on the eve of Diwali. Soon after the electrification, all the connections were registered using the aforementioned App in less than an hour, said Sanjay Sharma, Nodal Officer, PDD.
As per the inhabitants of the village, the App has proven a boon to them as they could hardly imagine that by sitting in their homes, access to electricity will be provided to them. In addition, around 230 connections in Kalimasta village of Ramban district will be registered in a day. It is quite evident that the App will save a lot of time and completely eliminate the cumbersome process of visiting concerned offices, standing in queues to avail electricity connection, he added.
He stated that the department is now all set to deploy its work force to electrify and register electricity connections through this latest technology, thereby adopting a completely paper less process, thus contributing towards Digital India.
