PDD removes 117 illegal connections

JAMMU, Sept 23: Power Development Department (PDD) removed 117 illegal connections and booked the violators under Section 95 of the State Electricity Act.
According to Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer PDD and Nodal Officer for the drive said that a mass disconnection drive across the city was conducted by the inspection squads of ED-II & ED- III in different areas of Jammu City, particularly in jhuggies.
“Twenty teams headed by Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers conducted simultaneous raids in different areas and found mass violations. Most of the temporary hutments and jhuggies were found drawing electricity illegally without meters, using electric heaters and, illegal hooking etc”, he added.
During the drive, 117 illegal connections were removed, thereby removing 155 kw illegal load from the system, Sharma said, adding that the violators were booked under Section 95 of State Electricity Act.
The defaulters in jhuggies were warned to avail temporary connections from the department and install energy meters either individually or in clusters, failing which power supply shall not be restored to them. In addition, required proceedings against the defaulters will be initiated as mandated under rules, he informed.
He asserted that PDD will continue such raids on regular basis along with officials from the Revenue Departments to ascertain and identify the owners of the plots where such jhuggies are found using electricity illegally so that the proceedings against the such plot and land owners could be initiated under the relevant Section of Electricity Act.
