Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Feb 9:  The protest dharna  and  `Kam Chhor Hartal’  of  the Power Development Department (PDD) employees today entered the 74th  consecutive day here today.
The agitation has been launched by  All  J&K PDD Daily Wagers Union ( Jammu province), under the leadership of Surjeet Khajuria, president of  the Union. These workers are sitting on protest dharna at SC Circle -I , M&RE PDD complex near Panama Chowk, on Railway Road, Jammu. They are demanding regularization of their services.
Several senior members of the Union including  president  and others addressed the gathering  and also criticised the Government for not fulfill its commitment with regard to the regularization of their services.  The Govt did nothing except publication of a letter seeking various kinds of information from all divisions of the PDD with regard to the daily wagers/ casual workers, they maintained.
They further pointed out that the DPC for regularization of services of the daily wage employees in various districts like Kathua and Udhampur has been conducted  and employees have been given benefits  of regularization of services but till date  the Jammu district has been ignored by the higher authorities due to which the employees who had given their 18 years of  life  to the department are still suffering a lot.  They  pointed out that Govt had promised during 2013 to regularize 1500 workers from Kashmir and 1500 from Jammu from PDD but from Jammu only 873 such workers were regularized causing great discrimination.
Khajuria and other Union members have urged upon the Dy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, holding charge of PDD to  issue directions to the Chief Engineer and SE PDD Circle- I M&RE to hold DPC  for making scope for the regularization of daily wagers. Bharat Singh Chairman, Gurnam Singh vice chairman and general secretary Ashwani Mehra of the Union also spoke on the occasion.
