PDD daily wagers’ protest enters 50th day

JAMMU, Jan 16: The PDD daily wagers continued their protest dharna outside the office premises of SE, EM&RE Circle, Jammu on the 50th consecutive day, today.
The workers led by Bharat Singh, chairman, All J&K PDD Daily Wagers Union, Jammu province and president, Surjeet Khajuria, started their `Kam Chhor Hartal’ on November 28.  Today was the 50th day of the strike and protest dharna.
The protesting workers were shouting slogans in support of their demand of regularization and enhancement of their wages besides clearance of all the pending wages. They were also demanding the release of their wages in time, conduct of DPC of all cadre. They further demanded that discrimination with the daily wagers from Jammu region be stopped and they should be treated at par with those from Kashmir region.
While speaking on the occasion, the speakers said while union members are continuously staging protest demonstration in support of their demands, the PDD authorities are forcing and pressurizing the innocent daily wagers to perform duty that too without security equipments and precautionary equipments. They cited the latest example of a member of the Union namely Joginder Pal son of Ram Dass, who received major electric shock while performing his duty at Receiving Station, Tanda (Akhnoor) and now doctors have advised amputation of both his hands.
The speakers appealed the PDD authorities for grant of appropriate financial help to the aggrieved daily wager to save his family from starvation. They also urged upon all the daily wagers of Jammu district to regularly participate in agitation and shun all field or office work.
