PDD Daily Wagers’ protest dharna enters 43rd day

JAMMU, Jan 9: Daily Wagers of Power Development Department (PDD) continued their protest dharna outside the office of SE Circle I, Panama Chowk on the 43rd consecutive day, today.
The workers led by Bharat Singh, chairman and Surjeet Khajuria, president, All J&K PDD Daily Wagers’ Union (Jammu province) started their `Kam Chhor Hartal’ on November 28. Today was the 43rd day of the strike and protest dharna.
The protesting workers were shouting slogans in support of their demand of regularization and enhancement of their wages besides clearance of all the pending wages. They were also demanding the release of their wages in time, conduct of DPC of all cadre. They further demanded that discrimination with the daily wagers from Jammu region be stopped and they should be treated at par with those from Kashmir region.
While addressing the protesting employees, Surjeet Khajuria said that the concerned authorities have given only fake assurances but not even a single Daily Wager has been regularized in Jammu district. “Even no DPC has been convened by the department since last four years”, he said, adding, SE Circle I, Ashwani Gupta, had also assured of holding DPC in 10 to 15 days on December 28 but nothing happened as on date.
Chairman of the Union, Bharat Singh, appealed all the union members to participate in a peaceful rally at 11 AM to be conducted tomorrow from the office of SE EM&RE Circle-I, Jammu to the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, to press for their demands.
