JAMMU, May 19: The daily rated workers of Power Development Department (PDD) who are on strike for the last 173 days, held strong protest demonstration near Press Club here and then took out rally in support of their pending demands.
A large number of workers led by senior trade unionists assembled at Press Club near main Tawi bridge and started  protest demonstration. They were demanding regularization  and release of their pending wages. These workers under the banner of  All J&K PDD Daily Wagers Union led by Surjeet Khajuria,  its president and chairman -Bharat Bhushan assembled at the venue and started protest demonstration against Govt.
They were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands. After holding protest for some time near  Press Club they took out a protest rally towards  Jewel Chowk. Then they laid down and sat on the road to mark their protest. They disrupted movement of traffic for some time. The police intervened and cleared   the road. They were shouting loud slogans against PDD Chief Engineer and concerned Minister (DyCM)  besides the Chief Minister.
These workers are sitting on indefinite dharna  in the office complex of SE  EM&RE, Circle Jammu Railway Road since November 28, 2016. Today their strike entered 173rd day.  Several trade unionists also addressed the gathering.
While speaking on the occasion, Surjeet  Khajuria demanded that higher authorities should regularize daily wagers of Jammu and Kathua districts  under SRO 381 of 1981. He said that Union has resolved to take their struggle to the logical conclusion. He warned to intensify their struggle in near future if the Government remained unmoved on their issues.
Vice chairman Gurnam Slathia, vice president Chintamani Singh and general secretary Ashwani  Mehra also spoke on the occasion.
