PDD daily wagers protest for compensation to injured colleague

JAMMU, Jan 20: Demanding adequate compensation to their colleague, who sustained serious injuries due to electric shock while rectifying some fault at receiving Station Tanda, the agitating PDD daily wagers of Jammu district, who are observing Kaam Chhor Hartal since November 28, held a strong protest demonstration, here today.
Led by Surjeet Khajuria, president of the All J&K PDD Daily Wagers Union, assembled
in the Office premises of SE. EM & RE Circle Jammu, and raised slogans against the PDD authorities.
The agitating Daily Wagers alleged that the PDD authorities were forcing them to perform duty, even in the absence of precautionary measures and security equipments. “This led to severe electric shock to Joginder Pal, son of Ram Dass at Receiving Station Tanda Akhnoor, who’s both hands were amputated by the doctors and he has been now rendered fully handicapped. He will not be in a position to earn livelihood for his family and all this happened only due to the negligent attitude of the concerned PDD authorities,” they said and demanded adequate compensation to the victim besides job to a member of his family.
The Union also appealed all the Daily Wagers of Jammu district to regularly participate in the ongoing agitation and suspended work in the field or office, for expressing resentment against the department and show solidarity with the Daily Wagers.
Claiming that the concerned SE, EM&RE Circle-I, Jammu has assured to concede their demand regarding convening of DPC by 25.01.2017, the Union threatened to further intensify the agitation if the assurance is not fulfilled.
The Union will Gherao   the Civil Secretariat in Jammu and shut down the electricity
supply completely for which Government will be solely responsible, the union leaders threatened.
The protest demonstration was addressed by its general secretary – Ashwani Mehra, press  secretary-Ajay Sharma, Parveen Sharma, Gurnam Slathia, Raj  Kumar, Gurdeep Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Kiran Paul, Sanjit Kumar and others.
