JAMMU, Apr 20: The PDD daily wagers  held  `Aakrosh rally’  near Press Club here in support of their demands today.
These hapless temporary workers under the banner of  All J&K PDD Daily Wagers  Union ( Jammu Province ) are on strike for the last 144 days. They are continuously staging protest dharna in the office complex of SE, EM&RE Circle Jammu on Railway Road.
Today, as a part of their `Aakrosh Rally’ programme, the PDD daily wagers assembled near Press Club here in the morning at around 10.30 am and started protest demonstration demanding their   regularization and release of pending wages. The workers from various PDD Divisions attended the protest programme.
While staging protest demonstration, they moved towards the Dogra Chowk and sat on dharna on busy road. Some of them lay down on the road.  The movement of traffic was disrupted for some time on the road but police cleared the road after some time. They were lifted and asked to move towards Exhibition Ground.
Union leaders Bharat Singh, Ashwani Mehra and others  addressed the gathering. They alleged discrimination with Jammu and Kathua district workers of the PDD as they were  not regularized at par with the workers of other districts. They alleged that matter was brought to the notice of Chief Engineer, EM&RE,  Development Commissioner Power  and even the Minister Incharge Power DyCM Dr Nirmal Singh, but they remained unmoved and failed to resolve the issue.
The Union leaders sought the intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and also of the  DyCM  to solve their pending issues otherwise, they will be forced to intensify the agitation in near future. They said that their protest dharna will be continued till the struggle  reaches the logical conclusion.
Prominent among others accompanying them included, Ajay Sharma, Parveen Sharma, Gurnam Slathia, Chintamani Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Devinder Singh, Kiran Paul, Sanjit Kumar and others.
