PDD casual/need based workers’ protest enters 175th day

JAMMU, Feb 12: The protest dharna of casual/need based workers of Power Development Department under the banner of All Jammu Province Casual/Need Based Workers Union PDD in front of the office of Chief Engineer, EM&RE, PDD Wing Jammu, entered into 175th day today.
Continuously for last 175 days, the PDD casual/need based workers are on dharna under the supervision of State president of the union, Akhil Sharma and Jammu province president, Shesh Kumar, demanding regularization policy for them, release of their pending wages and implementation of SRO 381 in the department.
While speaking on the occasion, Union’s Jammu province general secretary, Sanjeev said that on the night of February 10, a lineman namely Manoj Kumar son of Sama Ram, resident of village Chawala (RS Pura, Jammu) died due to electric shock from HT line. He appealed the PDD administration and Executive Engineer of concern division to investigate the case and give adequate compensation to the bereaved family.
Sanjeev said that while in Srinagar 7531 casual/need based workers get the monthly wages timely from the department but in Jammu about 3371 such workers are without wages for past many months. He said that they will continue their agitation till their demands particularly regarding release of pending salaries are accepted.
He also announced that on February 13 (Monday) at 11.30 AM they will organized a protest march from Chief Engineer office via Canal Road to Press Club.
The other demands of the union are insurance policy to workers and provision of compensation in case of death or disability of workers.
