PDD AEE caught red handed accepting bribe

JAMMU, Jan 31: Vigilance Organization Jammu has caught AEE Electric Maintenance PDD Division Udhampur, Sanjay Gupta, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant in lieu of shutting down the power supply for executing the felling work of standing Eucalyptus trees at Dhar Road (Domail), Udhampur.
The complainant, namely Sanjay Kumar of Sunal Majalta was allotted felling work of standing Eucalyptus trees by the SFC Jammu, which had further extended the work order for a period of 20 days. Since more trees were coming under the HT lines, LT lines and 33 KV lines passing through trees at Dhar Road (Domail) to Udhampur, the Divisional Manager Ext SFC Jammu vide letter No. 2406-9/DM/Ext/SFC/J dated 17.12.2016 requested Executive Engineer Electric Maintenance Division Udhampur to shut down the power supply during felling operation in the said area on proper schedule so that the work is executed well in time by the complainant.
Accordingly, the complainant approached to Sanjay Gupta, AEE Electric Maintenance Division Udhampur and requested him to shut down the power as per request of SFC. However, the AEE projected a demand of Rs 32,000/- for shutting the power supply. The complainant expressed inability to arrange such a huge amount and finally the matter was settled for Rs 20,000.
On his complaint, a case under FIR No. 03/2017 P/S VOJ was registered and trap team was constituted, led by Kartar Singh, Dy.SP. The team arrested the AEE red handed and recovered Rs 20,000/- from the accused person in presence of independent witnesses.
