LEH, Sept 24: Five members delegation from Press Council of India (PCI) led by Indian Journalists Union President SN Sinha had an interaction session with journalist here to understand their peculiar problems of local working journalist.
PCI members included Prakash Dubey, Dr Suman Gupta and Naveen Joshi.
District Information official, Press Club members, Door Darshan Kendra Assistant Director, All India Radio News Incharge and freelance journalists were present during the interaction session.
Giving an introductory speech, SN Sinha said that their visit to Jammu and Kashmir is to understand the problems of journalists working in Leh. He said that the decision to visit Jammu and Kashmir was taken after Dilip Padkonkar Interlocutor Committee Report on media where journalists of Jammu and Kashmir have peculiar problems.
The Press Club members raised various issue including misrepresentation of facts in National media, special DAVP rate for Ladakh region, victimization of journalists in the past, Media Accreditation, internet connectivity problems, to conduct workshop by senior journalist to enhance knowledge of local journalists, giving preferences to journalist in DDK and Radio Station, objection over Government employees doing journalist activity in Leh, media gallery during official function, lack of facilities for journalists and absence of wire news agency representatives.
After giving a patient hearing to the grievances of local journalists, PCI delegation head SN Sinha said that PCI takes care of freedom of press in the country and PCI will render support to the working journalist in Leh. The PCI members also assured that various issues presented before them will be highlight before concerned agencies for redressal.
The committee member also suggested the local media to work in unity to make the Press Club strong in the years to come. They also assured their support to organize media seminar to enhance the knowledge of journalists.
