PCC chief describes demonetization as tool to hide BJP failure

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Hundreds of Congress leaders and workers led by PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and other senior functionaries and leaders of party including Legislators and former Ministers took out an impressive rally in Jammu and another one at Srinagar under the leadership of former PCC chief Peerzada Mohd Sayeed to observe black day to mark first anniversary of demonetization in the country.

In Jammu, a larger number of senior Congress leaders, Legislators, former Ministers, Ex-MLAs, District presidents, leaders of frontal organizations like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, Seva Dal, INTUC and prominent workers from all over Jammu province assembled at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, near Samadhian (Tawi river) and took out a procession towards Vivekanand Chowk, Residency Road and Shahidi Chowk, raising slogans holding flags and placards denouncing the demonetization by Modi Govt on this day last year. The processionists were bearing black badges and caps.
Addressing the large gathering, PCC president lashed out at the Modi Govt for the demonetization announced this day last year which brought out havoc to the economy of the country. He said that Prime Minister Modi owes an answer to the nation as to what was achieved by the demonetization as none of his stated objectives of eliminating black money, terror financing counterfeit currency have been met. He said that crores of common people were made to line up in front of ATMs to get their genuine money for their daily use but entire country underwent great sufferings and over hundred persons lost lives, lakhs of people lost jobs, countless suffered economic loss and small and medium businessmen were forced to close down their ventures. The fact that more than 99 % of the demonetized money came back into banking system, has proved the Govt claims as false and misleading.
“The economy of the country suffered huge loss as GDP growth rate has dropped to 5.7 %. Now, after one year, Modi Govt should explain and apologize to the poor and common man for his historical blunder for political gains. More painful is that the Govt is celebrating this day, when the entire country is aware of the loss to the people in terms of human loss and economic loss. Demonetization is being used as tool to hide BJP failures,” he added.

The JKPCC leaders and workers, today on the first anniversary of demonetization held a protest demonstration in the summer capital, Srinagar and said the BJP led Government cannot escape the responsibility for losses that were caused due to scrapping of high value currency.
Scores of Congress leaders including Legislators and workers led by former PCC president Peerzada Mohd Sayeed took out a rally from its headquarters at Maulana Azad Road, Srinagar and marched up to Press Enclave. They were chanting slogans against what they said “so-called demonetization” and described it as a move to hide the failure on part of BJP Government at Centre.
Before taking out the march, the former PCC chief addressed the party leaders and workers and urged them to defeat the “anti-people designs of the BJP-PDP ruling dispensation.”
He lashed out at Centre Government for punishing people under the garb of demonetization and said the BJP cannot escape the responsibility of losses caused due to demonetisation in the country.
Peerzada blamed the Union Government especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating confusion. “The demonetisation is a deliberate move to divert the attention of the people from the promises that were made by Modi with the people before coming into power,” he said.
Senior leaders Taj Mohi-udDin, Usman Majid, Haji Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat, Farooq Andrabi, S S Channi,Shameem Iqbal, Shameema Raina, Abid Kashmiri and others also joined the protest march.
Similar protest demonstration was also held at Katra (Reasi) under the leadership of former minister and senior Congress leader, Ex-Jugal Kishore Sharma (MLC). Sharma later addressed the gathering and projected failures of Modi Govt.
District Congress Committee, Leh also observed black day on demonetization by Modi Govt and took out a large protest march under the leadership of DCC chief, Tsering Sampel, former CEC Rigzin Spalbar, MLA Nobra, Deldan Namgyal and Sonam Dorjey, former Councilor. Several leaders addressed the gathering.
