MAJALTA, Dec 31: MLA  Ramnagar, R S Pathania  today reiterated his resolve and mission to fight for the rights of the poor and under privileged, especially daily wagers .
While addressing a one-day convention of PHE  Employees Association, Udhampur, he said may it be drinking water, supply of electricity, tourism sector or any other department, the daily-wagers and casual workers constitute the very indispensable backbone. “And it is irony of time and place that neither they are paid regularly nor they regularized particularly in the light of categorical Supreme Court directives, which declare ‘right to regularization’ and ‘right to wages’ as fundamental rights.
Mr  Pathania  sought formulation of a uniform policy on ‘reasonable’ wages to employees as well as regularization of daily/casual workers. He also sought implementation of Minimum Wages Act in the State in its letter and spirit.
Pointing out that the Government has itself put a bar as to nobody can employ anybody on wages less than Rs  110.00 per day, Pathania said that monthly wages of SPOs, ReTs, ReZs, casual labourers working on Rs  500.00 per month reveals that that State itself was  violating its  Minimum Wages Act.  He appealed the State Government to immediately rise to the occasion and look into afresh the mess going in this regard.
“Despite assurances offered on the floor of Assembly, no action has been taken in the direction of raising wages of casual workers in PHE  and PDD  from Rs  500.00 to that of Rs  3300.00. Also, SPOs who have virtually become the backbone of Police force by sustaining militancy operations and looking after law and order and routine activities of police force, are being made to work on a paltry wages of Rs  3100.00 per month. Similar is the tell-tale of drivers/sweepers in State Health Deptt, ReTs, ReZs, and the total countdown is exhaustive,” he added.
Various office bearers of PHE. Employees Association, Udhampur were  present on the occasion and they also addressed the meet.
