All parties meet decides to defer construction of Sewa-1

KATHUA, Dec 11: All political parties and social organization today unanimously decided to defer 11 mw hydraulic project Sewa-1 which was to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 129 crore at Bani. But they decided that other three small hydel projects will be taken up to fulfill the requirement of power in the area.
An important  meeting of all political parties and prominent citizens of Bani constituency  was arranged in the office of S.D.M Bani to discuss the issues pertaining to the construction of Sewa-1 hydel power project. The meeting was chaired by Jewan Lal Lalhal, MLA Bani and also  attended by SDM Bani and Executive Engineers of JKEDA.
In the meeting it was decided that the construction of project on Sewa-1 shall be deferred for time being and the construction of three other small hydel projects will be taken in the first phase of which two will be constructed on Sewa river at Khadkal and Chandel  respectively and one on Khad Nallah.
All political parties and prominent citizens appreciated the decision and complimented the M.L.A Bani for appreciating their concern and passing fresh instructions to the execution agencies to save the Bani town from dry spell, irrigation water crisis etc.
The matter was raised by Ex Minister and Congress leader Prem Sagar Aziz and former Deputy Speaker Ghulam Hyder Malik of  National Conference who approached the Government and expressed concern over the construction of this project and alleged that with the construction of this project beauty of Bani town and it’s environment will  adversely affected . The Bani people  also protested against the decision.
In view of the protest of the people and opposition by Congress and NC, M.L.A Bani has called the meeting to discuss the concerns of stakeholders and the matter has been resolved by unanimous decision of all parties.
