Parthasarathy is new CUJ Chancellor

JAMMU, July 7: Veteran diplomat Gopalaswami Parthasarathy has been appointed as new Chancellor for Central University of Jammu (CUJ).
Parthasarathy will succeed, J&K Governor N.N Vohra, who has also served the varsity as Chancellor.
Born on May 13, 1940, Parthasarathy is an Indian diplomat and author.
Graduate in Electrical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras (now Chennai) in 1962, he was Ambassador of India to Myanmar from 1992-95, High Commissioner of India to Australia from 1995-98, High Commissioner of India to Pakistan from 1998-2000 and High Commissioner of India, Cyprus from 1990-92. Later he was the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs and Prime Minister’s Office.
He started his career as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army and served there from 1963-1968, subsequently he joined Indian Foreign Service on July 29, 1968 and his first diplomatic assignment was as Third Secretary in the Embassy of India in Moscow from August 1970.
He then served in Dar es Salaam and Washington, and was Consul General in Karachi from 1982-1985. Later he was India’s High Commissioner to Cyprus from 1990 to 1992, Ambassador to Myanmar from 1992 to 1995, High Commissioner to Australia from 1995 to 1998 and High Commissioner to Pakistan from 1998 to 2000. He was also Spokesman at Ministry of External Affairs and Information Adviser and Spokesman in Prime Minister’s Office.
He is presently Visiting Professor in the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi and a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies and a member of the Executive Committee of the Centre for Air Power Studies in New Delhi.
