Parshuram Jayanti celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, May 12: The two -day long celebrations of Bhagawan Parshoram Jayanti started today. In this connection various functions were held in different parts of Jammu region.
The Parshuram Jayanti was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety at Parshuram Mandir at Chanderbagha Ghat Akhnoor in which thousands of devotees participated and paid obeisance to Bhagawan Parshuram.
Member Parliament, Jammu Poonch Constituency Madan Lal Sharma and Minister of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma were present on the occasion.
While greeting the devotees Madan Lal Sharma urged the people to follow the teachings of saints and serve the humanity. He said people should rise above the barriers of caste, creed and religion to strengthen the social fabric.
In his address Sham Lal Sharma lauded Brahman Sabha and the people of Akhnoor for making elaborate efforts in completing the temple and asked the people to make concerted efforts for implementing various developmental projects which are under way in Akhnoor town.
He said the Akhnoor town is having rich historical background and the Government is making earnest efforts to explore the religious tourism potential of this historic town.
On the occasion meritorious students were felicitated and a hawan was also performed which was followed by religious discourses of Suresh Shastri.
Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha Jammu organized a grand Poojan and Sankirtan here at the Brahman Sabha Parade. The day -long function started in the morning with poojan of Bhagwan Parshoram. The community members and all the Brahman Sabha office bearers participated in Pooja.
Pt Dev Raj Sharma led the pooja in praise of Bhagawan Parshuram Ji.
It was followed by Bhajan Kirtan by renowned singers Jeevan Sharma and his party. They recited devotional songs and bhajans mesmerizing the gathering with religious and spiritual atmosphere. He was accompanied by Kamal Sharma and other party members. Shiv Charna Dass Sharma compeered the programme and presented vote of thanks.
President of the Sabha Ved Parkash Sharma in his speech threw light on the life of Bhagawan Parshuram and highlighted various activities of the Sabha.
The two day long Jayanti celebrations will conclude with a grand rath yatra tomorrow at 4 pm. This will be preceded by performance of Yagnopavit ceremony (wearing of sacred thread) in the morning at Brahman Sabha.
In connection with Parshuram Jayanti a grand shoba Yatra was taken out in Kathua township today. The Sobha Yatra started from Brahman Sabha ITI Kathua and after passing through various markets and Ring road Kathua it culminated at Brahman Sabha later. A large number of devotees singing bhajans in praise of Bhagawan Parshuram Ji participated in the Shoba Yatra. The MLA Kathua Charanjit Singh Jasrotia was the chief guest on the occasion.
Parshuram Jayanti was also celebrated at Samba with full religious fervour and gaiety and a large number of devotees drawn from different parts of the district participated in the celebrations.
