JAMMU, July 30: Expressing serious concern over the Kashmir unrest and loss of human lives, CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammed Yousf Tarigami today demanded that an all Party Parliamentary delegation be sent to Kashmir to hold talks with people representing different Shades of opinion including separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and others.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference here today, Tarigami termed the situation too grave in Kashmir and urged the Union Government to hold a dialogue process with the people including the separatists. He said the situation which took an ugly turn after the killing of Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani was not the reaction to the killing but the outcome of the people’s anger who felt betrayed over the years by the successive Governments.
He said to resolve the present alienation in Kashmir valley former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao said the sky is the limit while Atal Behari Vajpayee had said that the dialogue will be held on the basis of Insaniyat (humanity) with the people. Even then Union Home Minister, L K Advani on initiation of dialogue with separatists had said that they are our own people. But these promises were not kept later, which is the cause of simmering unrest in Valley, he added.
Tarigami said even the Parliamentary Standing Committee report and interlocutors report on Kashmir were not implemented. Even the Autonomy resolution passed by State Assembly was thrown into dust bin by the then Union government, he added.
He said with such policies the Kashmiris have lost faith in the system and efforts be made to restore that faith before it is too late.
Maintaining that militarization was not any solution to the Kashmir issue, the CPI(M) leader said that efforts are needed to put out the fire and not ignite it.
He said Kashmir is not a communal issue or Jammu versus Kashmir issue but it is a political unrest and its solution has to be found by us by rising above party politics. But the added responsibility lies with the political leadership of Delhi which has to find the solution, he added.
Tarigami said Kashmir can’t ignore Jammu and vice versa while both of them can’t together ignore Ladakh.
He also demanded that use of Pellet guns be stopped immediately and appealed people of Jammu who he said can play a remarkable role in defusing tension in Valley by sharing the pain and agony of the people of Kashmir. He stressed on holding of dialogue with people of Kashmir on various levels like civil society, between journalist fraternity of two regions and intellectuals.
He said it is unfortunate that, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has not spoken about this serious situation. No initiative has been taken after the visit of Home Minister and the time is running out, he added.
