UDHAMPUR, May 16: Demanding stern action against alleged killers of young housewife Simmi Devi who died on May 13 under mysterious circumstances at the house of her-in laws, the family members of the deceased and Panther Party activists today blocked the Dhar road and held a strong protest dharna.
Led by Panthers Party’s state president Balwant Singh Mankotia, a number of JKNPP workers protested outside the DC office and blocked the Dhar road for hours. They warned the Batote Police that if culprits are not booked within 24 hours, Panthers Party would gherao the police station Batote.
According to Mankotia, Simmi Devi of Chakhad Panchayat was married to Bittu of Batote few years ago. “After the marriage, in-laws of Simmi Devi and husband Bittu allegedly started harassing her for less dowry and other petty issues. Due to continuous harassment and ruthlessly beaten up by in-laws, Simmi Devi strangled to death on 13th of May at Batote. When parents of the Simmi reached Batote after hearing the death of their daughter, in-laws misbehaved and thrashed the parents of Simmi. Parents of Simmi have lodged a written complaint at Batote Police Station but police has not initiated any action against the alleged culprits,” he added.
Mankotia alleged that police has not arrested the culprits who killed Simmi and even not initiated any enquiry into the matter forcing people of Chakhad Panchayat to protest against the Batote police.
