Pak Firing: BSF jawan martyred, civilian among 7 injured

JAMMU: A BSF jawan attained martyrdom while six jawans and a civilian sustained injuries as Pakistan resorted to heavy unprovoked firing on the Line of Control in Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors of Rajouri and Krishna Ghati area of Poonch.

“Pakistani army this morning violated the ceasefire agreement in the Nowshera sector and targeted forward Indian posts and civilian areas,” official spokesman here said. He said four BSF personnel were injured in shelling at Tarkundi area of Rajouri district while one of them identified as Head Constable Raj Singh of Kheri Sapala, Rohtak in Haryana, later succumbed to his injuries. He is survived by his wife Sunita Devi, three sons and a mother, they said.

“Last night in heavy shelling from Pakistan side along the LoC in Rajouri area, four BSF Personnel sustained splinter injuries. Head Constable Raj Singh, who was seriously injured, succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of another personnel was serious,” said a BSF officer.

However, two Army jawans and a civilian also got injured in KG Sector and Nowshera Sector respectively. An injured civilian was identified as Abdul Aziz, 52, son of Dil Mohammad, of village Basooni, Dharana, Poonch.

Meanwhile, SDM Mendhar Thakar Shir Singh has ordered that all the Government and Private Educational institutions falling under the cluster of Dahrgloon, schools of Bahrooti, Swala, Panji, Dharati, Basooni, Sandohte, Bahrote, Lanjiout, Rehllan, Basooni, Patri, shall remain close due to heavy shelling by Pak at LOC.

“The examinations of Govt/ private institution T1 has also been postponed and the fresh date sheet will be circulated later,” said the SDM. (AGENCIES)
