Over 150 people rescued from avalanche prone areas in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Over 150 people, including two pregnant women, were rescued and taken to safety by state police from avalanche prone areas in north Kashmir, where more wet weather is predicted during the next 24 hours.

A police spokesperson here this evening said in view of the heavy snowfall and apprehension of snow avalanche at Khadiyall in Gurez in Bandipora, police launched a rescue operation and evacuated 10 families consisting of 70 members to safety. He said in Ismarg in Bandipora, 15 families, consisting of 80 members, were rescued and shifted to a safer place. (AGENCIES)
