Orientation course for PET’s begins at Shrine Board’s Sports Complex

KATRA, Apr 20: Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, inaugurated an Orientation Course in Sports for Physical Education Teachers of Reasi District at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra today.
In all, 60 Physical Education Masters and Physical Education Teachers are participating in the orientation course which has been organised by the Shrine Board. They will be provided practical training and orientation vis-a-vis techniques, latest rules and other aspects of athletics, shooting, volleyball and basketball by highly experienced Coaches and experts in these disciplines. A workshop is also being organized as part of the orientation training programme to work out an Action Plan for promotion of sports in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sahu welcomed all the participants of the orientation course and informed that a database of sportspersons, physical education teachers and others associated with sports in the area is being prepared and specialized trainings in various disciplines as part of Training of Trainers (ToT) programme is being organized by the Board so that the sports activities get a major boost in the area. He urged the participants to utilize their expertise in such a way that the area produces sports persons of repute who can make a mark at the state and national level sports events.
Giving details of various sports activities being organised by the Shrine Board at Katra this year, the CEO stated that these include a national level Marathon Race, national level Wushu championship, national level Kabaddi championship and National/ North Zone level Archery Championship. Besides, a 4-week summer coaching camp for boys and girls of 8-14 years of age in various games is also being organised by the Board in June-July this year.
Dr. Piyush Singla, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board, dwelt on the state-of-the-art facilities created by the Board for promoting the sporting talent among the youth of the area by providing them the basic and advanced coaching, equipment and all other required facilities. He thanked the Youth Services and Sports Department for their support and cooperation in organising the orientation training programme.
Dr. Arvind Karwani, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB and Swaran Singh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Reasi also spoke on the occasion.
